As I grow through my journey of coming to peace with chronic pain, I see the need for deep self compassion. So this painting depicts a woman connecting her belly to her heart, bringing awareness and kindness into the relationship with her body. In the glowing light of the setting sun, she feels the peace and stillness that comes from this deep connection to her essence.

I find such tranquility in nature & creating these hidden lid gourd containers helps me feel that I am in harmony with my universe. Gourds are a living medium, and when I am touching & handling them I feel very connected to this organic plant. I dye the gourds with true to life colors after carving them open. The process is relaxing & takes me away from my pain & any anxiety. I can totally escape into the gorgeous fall foliage!

I made this doodle at the beginning of quarantine. As a social person, it’s been hard to be isolated from those that I LOVE. I’ve realized that there is no way we can do this alone. We are relational beings after all…I’m hoping we can shift out of our paradigm of “every person for themselves” and into a more cohesive and community based model.
